Its hard to ignore the facts, global warming and climate change are real and the worlds leaders are taking notice and action
In the United States President Obama takes the biggest step yet to combat climate change by finalising Americas clean power plan, setting the first ever carbon pollution standards for power plants (see President Obamas address to the nation on climate change and the clean power plan) https://www.whitehouse.gov/climate-change
Bill gates announced in July 2015 “I plan to invest $1Billion in clean technolgy over the next five years” http://www.gatesnotes.com/Energy/Energy-Innovation
Pope Francis’s encyclical on the environment, regarded as a landmark intervention in the global climate change debate directed sharp criticism at global leaders for their failure to combat climate change http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jun/28/pope-francis-environment-rome-naomi-klein-climate-change
With the worlds population predicted to reach 9 billion by the year 2050 there will be an additional 2 billion people sharing the planet where the demands for energy, electricity, food, shelter and clean water will increase expendentially impacting direclty on the environment and unless we change the way we do things we will see a rapid escalation in the what we are already witnessing with climate change.
Per capita, New Zealanders are the 5th highest emitters of greenhouse gases among the worlds industrialized nations. Greenhouse gas emissions in New Zealand have increased by over 20% since 1990 and current action won’t deliver the significant reductions required.
You have to think, Where is the leadership? Where is the guardianship?
Doing nothing invites the inevitable, where change will be driven from survival and where change may be too late to make a difference and turn things around.
As Barrack Obama quoted in his address on climate change “We are the first generation to feel the impact of climate change, we are the last generation to do something about it”
If everyone contributes a little the compounded effects will effect positive change, if we make change a habit we will make a difference
